Dissertation proposal re the establishment of Mather School for girls in Beaufort, S.C.; originally established by Rachel Mather as an orphanage and elementary school for African American girls; financially supported by the Woman's American Baptist Home Mission Society and the woman's missionary arm of the American Baptist Church in North America; high school grades were added in the 1910s; became a junior college, 1956; closed 1968 and property was transferred to Beaufort County, S.C.; renamed Beaufort Regional Technical Center, 1970; became part of state wide Technical Education System, 1972.
